THE GEMMA NEWMAN AWARD
COMISSIONED BY DE MONTFORD UNIVERSITY
Gemma Newman joined the BA Accounting and Finance programme in September 2002 and graduated in July 2005 with a very well deserved first class honour's degree. She embarked on a career in Chartered Accountancy in September 2005 but was tragically lost to us forever in November 2005. As a mark of respect, affection and admiration which her tutors and friend felt and still feel for Gemma, this award is presented to commemorate her life, preserve her memory and to honour her name.
The award is made to the Accounting and Finance student who has undertaken the same modules as Gemma and shown such a level of improvement in their final year results to as Gemma did, move up a classification in their final year in comparison to the expectations generated by their first and second year results.
2008 Winning Student Amanda Parker:
"Amanda had gained a solid upper second class average in her year two assessments and was in line to gain a good upper send class honour's degree, but showed outstanding diligence and application in her final year module course work and examination assessments to gain a thoroughly and well deserved first class honour's degree." Dr Peter Scott, Department of Accountancy and Finance.
